Sour Diesel

Also known as: Sour D, Sour Deez
Medical Sativa Sativa THC 25% CBD -

It has been said, time and again, that modern cannabis genetics would look vastly different if it weren't for Sour Diesel, and we are inclined to agree. The ridiculous number of hybrids and crosses that have been created with Sour Diesel as a parent or grandparent is simply staggering, and seeing the reason why is not difficult at all.

Sour Diesel, also known as Sour D and Sour Deez, burst onto the Californian recreational and medical weed scene sometime in 1991 or 1992, and instantly changed the game. Up until this point, there were very few "big name" strains, but Sour Diesel quickly became one of them thanks to its unmistakable aroma and flavour profile, its therapeutic potential, and its ability to produce a potent and long-lasting high.

Only a handful of cannabis cultivars have stood the test of time in the same way as Sour Diesel, let's find out why....

  • The Potency - While topping the 25% THC level might not sound like a huge achievement in this day and age, things were very different back in the early 90s. THC levels were rarely seen above 20%, so for a strain to come out and straight up smash it out of the park with an extra 5% to 7% (along with around 2% CBD and 4% CBN) was monumental, to say the least. The effects of Sour Diesel lean heavily towards Sativa, thanks to the 90/10 genetic split, but that light sprinkling of Indica helps even the cerebral rush out a bit.
  • The Effects - Gone are the days when weed was seen as a pure sedative, and that is in large part thanks to Sour Diesel. One of the first highly celebrated medical strains, Sour Diesel has proven itself to be a worthy medicinal aid for a range of physical and mental conditions. The high is both energetic and uplifting, helping with issues including anxiety, depression, chronic pain, inflammatory issues, and PTSD.
  • The Flavour and Aroma - The terpene Limonene ranks high in Sour Diesel profile, and that is obvious as soon as you crack open the jar. Almost as if stepping into a lemon and lime orchid, the powerful citrusy hit is complemented by an undercurrent of delicious, dank diesel and a certain level of earthy musk that rounds the nose out. The taste is very much in line with the smell, but is more herbal than gassy.
